- Reports from CNN: 20 people held hostage in restaurant.
- Lori Ann Walsh Imdad, principal of American Standard School, wrote on her Facebook page: "Terrorists broke in and shot the Italian baker and his wife and took about 20 foreigners hostage. This is a block from my place so I have a front row seat to the police action."
- There are reports of the gunmen throwing grenades at the police.

- The Dhaka Tribune are reporting the incident as an "apparent terrorist attack".

- Indian NDTV reporting 2 diplomats killed - this has NOT been confirmed locally or anywhere else.
- The RAB DG confirms that the gunmen kept the hostages at O'kitchen restaurant, which is a sister concern of the Holey Artisan bakery and operates from the same building at Road-79 in Gulshan 2.

- Rapid Action Battalion(RAB) - a special ops police force - has requested TV channels to suspend live broadcast; they want to establish contact with individuals inside the restaurant.

- There's reports that at least 20 civilians have been taken hostage but this has not been confirmed.

- The Director General of Rapid Action Battalion Bangladesh has requested the TV Channels to halt the live broadcast for security purposes. Also, mentioned that they want to talk with those inside the restaurant, including the gunmen.

- There's no sign of any rescue mission yet! A lot of police offers received splinter injuries from the crude bombs that were thrown at them.
- The US embassy in Dhaka tweeted that there were "reports of shooting and hostage situation".
- A member of kitchen staff at the bakery told the Bangladesh Daily Star that the attackers "shouted Allah hu Akbar before blasting the bombs".

- The Home Minister announced just yesterday that there's no chance of any sort of terrorist attack in the capital and country. Not even a day has passed after the comment and this happens! Gulshan is the most highly secured area in the capital where all the diplomats live here. Such incident is indeed very shocking!

- Just under a month ago, the Holey Artisan Bakery opened a new store in Bangkok, Thailand.
- Three people were shot at 10:30pm. Of them, two are police personnel, poilce sources confirm.

- Sumon Reza, a kitchen staff of Holey Artisan Bakery, who managed to escape said several armed assailants entered the restaurant around 8:45pm and took the chief chef hostage.“They blasted several crude bombs causing wide-scale panic among everyone. I managed to flee during this confusion,” he said.

- From the Bangladesh Daily Star:According to intelligence gathered by our correspondent at spot, about five assailants entered one Holey Artisan Bakery restaurant on Road 79 and opened gunfire around 9:20pm.Huge number of policemen and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members cordoned off the restaurant. Assailants were hurling bombs when this report was filed around 10:46pm.Several people including policemen are believed to have been shot at scene. Televisions were covering the incident live and showed some people shot.

- Dhaka Tribune's DMCH corrspondent Aminul Islam Babu confirmed the identities of the injured. They are—Abdur Razzak, a driver in profession who took a bullet in throat and police constables Pradip and Alamgir. The police personnel were shot in their right legs.
- Reports are of three casualties and two dead.
- There are also reports of hostages in an Artisan bakery.
